Increasing Divorce Fee

  • Posted

In line with Michael Gove’s vision of creating a modernised, leaner and more efficient court and tribunals service, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed the Government’s intention of increasing the fee for issuing divorce proceedings from the current £410 to £550.  No date has been announced as to when this new fee will come into force.

The original plan had been to increase the fee by 80% to £750 although such was the negative response to such an increase that a more modest increase was settled on.  The fee remission scheme remains available for those who qualify.

The same fee will apply to applications for a decree of nullity or, for those in a civil partnership, for a dissolution order or nullity order.

In relation to civil proceedings there will be a general uplift of 10% to a wide range of fees.
